Thamesmead Town boss Keith McMahon goes to Market to sign Richard Butler
Saturday 11th June 2011
THAMESMEAD TOWN boss Keith McMahon has made Richard Butler his second summer signing, writes Stephen McCartney.Butler played for Mead’s Ryman League Division One North rivals Needham Market last season, but has put pen to paper for the Bayliss Avenue club after moving back down south due to his job.
The versatile defender or midfielder re-joined Needham Market from Enfield Town in October 2010, having previously moved away due to his job. He is described as a strong and commanding solid central defender who can also play full-back as well as in midfield. He was a fans’ favourite at his former club.
The Suffolk outfit finished in second place in their first season in the Ryman League, but they didn’t join East Thurrock United in the Ryman Premier League as Wingate & Finchley won the play-offs.
“Richard is another big signing for us,” said McMahon, who snapped up the much-travelled midfielder Dean Standen from Maldon & Tiptree last week, when speaking to the club’s website www.thamesmeadtownfc.co.uk.
“He played for Needham Market last season before moving down here, so he has a lot of experience.
“He can play in a few positions at the back and in midfield if needed. I like the way he gets the ball down and plays, so he will fit into our style of football very well.
“Again, he has a lot of experience to help the younger players and he will add a lot of strength and depth to the squad.”
The club are pleased to announce that the two roles of first team coach and reserve team manager have now been filled.
Paul McDonagh (first team coach) and Rob Dillon (reserve team manager) have been appointed by McMahon.
He said: “They are both good additions to the club.
“Paul will add a lot with the first team, he is a very good coach and will fit in with the squad very well. He has experience with seniors having managed Bearsted.
“Rob is going to be another good addition for us. He managed Sevenoaks Town reserves last year, so he knows all about reserve team football, which we need as we are entering the Surburban League this season."
