Thanks for the memories, Chris

EBBSFLEET UNITED boss Liam Daish has today confirmed that Fleet favourite Chris McPhee, 25, will not be extending his stay at Stonebridge Road.

McPhee, who joined the Fleet last summer after rejecting a contract with relegated side Torquay United, was named Gravesend Reporter Player of the Year last season and of course entered Fleet folklore with the winning goal against his former club in the FA Trophy Final at Wembley Stadium on 10th May.

McPhee made 55 appearances in his one season at Stonebridge Road, scoring 12 goals in total.

“Chris told me he was moving to the West Country for family reasons,” Daish told www.ebbsfleetunited.co.uk.

“He’s getting married in the summer and his wife is from the area.

“He said that if nothing comes up football-wise, he’ll take time out and follow another path.

“I had been very patient, and we did all we could to keep Chris.

“I offered him what would have been the best contract at the club but he indicated it wasn’t about money.

“I’ve thanked him for his great season. I was a little surprised he didn’t want to kick on, but everyone is different.”

Last week, nineteen-year-old midfielder Lee Maskell signed a contract for Ryman Premier League side Ramsgate, following his release from Stonebridge Road.

Maskell, who was with Charlton Athletic for four years, made his Fleet first team debut at the age of eighteen, after joining the club’s PASE scheme two years earlier.

On behalf of Kent football fans and it’s clubs, www.kentishfootball.co.uk would like to thank Chris for scoring THAT goal that brought the FA Trophy to Kent for the very first time and wish him all the very best in the future.
