THE BIG KICK OFF: We're prapred for life in the Ryman Premier, says Hume - EXCLUSIVE
Wednesday 15th August 2007
Lloyd Hume is expecting his Maidstone United team to come up against a tough Horsham side when they open their Ryman Premier League campaign on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.
But the Stones joint-manager believes his team are fully prepared for the Hornets’ clash at Bourne Park, Sittingbourne, following their impressive pre-season campaign. The Stones, who clinched the Ryman League Division One South title on the final day of last season, thanks to a nail-biting 2-1 win at Walton Casuals, have lost just two games during their nine pre-season outings.
“We couldn’t be more prepared with the squad we’ve got,” Hume said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk.
“I’m delighted with the way we’ve performed through pre-season and with the way we’ve trained - but that counts for nothing come 3 o’clock.
“It’s a massive game and they’re a good side and last year they were contenders for a long time.
“We know it’s going to be a tough game but every game is going to be a tough game for us this year.”
But Hume expects his side to “impose themselves” on the Sussex side.
He said: “I know a few of their players, we know the way they play and what we expect.
“We know we have to impose our game on them as we’re at home.”
Maidstone United lock horns with Hastings United - the side that went up with them - on Tuesday night.
Looking forward to their trip to 1066 country, Hume said: “We know a lot about Hastings but that will be tough as well.
“They’re a good side and these are games that we are looking forward to as a club - we’re very excited.”
