The boys are up for going on a run, says Ward
Speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk after their win at the Maidstone Road Sports Ground, Ward admitted that he was happy with the way things are going for his side at the moment.
He said: “It was a good performance tonight but still not enough quality - I'm pleased though, three points keeps us ticking along nicely.”
And when you consider that Tuesday's hero young keeper Brett Mills (who only played because first choice keeper Sam Mott got lost en route to the ground) may not even be in the squad for the weekends game, it really does empathise the fact that the Rams boss was quick to underline during our midweek conversation.
"You know we've got a decent squad at the minute - cover in all departments," he said, "and we'll see if we can keep ticking along and try to get that elusive fifth spot!"
Once again Southwood (after some early season hiccups) is once more becoming a very difficult place for opposing teams to play.
Ward was quick to agree that, "we've got to look to win all our home games. We beat Croydon (who are one of the high flyers) the other week, gave Dartford a real scare in the League Cup and even last weekend against (Bishop’s) Stortford in the Trophy.
"But after playing those big games it's important we keep up the same momentum and consistency for the more mundane games, which is why given the conditions tonight, with all due respect to them, it was so important to get three points against Chatham on Tuesday - we raised our game and that delighted me almost as much as the three points."
"We got to go on a run now - the boys are up for it - starting with Corinthian Casuals on Saturday."
But with a note of warning the canny Scot added, "but take it from me they are no mugs - they're like a lot of teams in this league, they blow hot and cold - we beat them 3-0 down there at their place, but I wouldn;t think we'll beat them 3-0 again on Saturday - they're a good side!"
Ward was due to assess his squad after last night’s training session, but will definitely be without Ryan Dolby as the young central defender is suspended, but as Ward admitted, this season especially the Ramsgate boss hasn't shied away from giving youth its chance in the Rams Red.
"We've played 16 year olds against both Dartford and Strortford so we'll have to see - that though is what Ramsgate FC are all about!”
