The boys will get their heads down and show what they can do, says Sittingbourne boss Gary Abbott

SITTINGBOURNE boss Gary Abbott says their home game against Burgess Hill is probably their biggest game of the season, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Hillians arrive at Bourne Park sitting in fifth place in the Ryman League Division One South table with 28 points from 16 games and have a game in hand over the sixth placed Kent side.

“Obviously it’s probably our biggest game this season so far,” Abbott told www.kentishfootball.co.uk.

“I think it’s important for us as they’ve got games in hand as well.  It’s really important we get three points on Saturday.  I’m quietly confident we can do that, if we play how we have been playing in the last two or three weeks.”

Sittingbourne travelled down to Laylands Park seven weeks ago and were on the end of a 3-1 defeat with Nick Reeves scoring their only goal.

Abbott said: “We should’ve got something out of the game. We actually gifted them three goals - it was on the plate for them.

“We didn’t have Tom (Bradbrook) playing as well.  Having Tom there will make a big difference for us so everyone’s looking forward to it.

“We know it’s a massive game. We just don’t want to get beat, that’s the main thing.”

Sittingbourne can bolster their play-off chances with a victory at the weekend.

“If you had told me at the start of the season we’d be joint fifth coming up to the end of November I would have bit your hand off for that,” said Abbott.

“We’ve got a lot of youngsters and if we can bring players in we will but obviously with the budget we can’t really push the budget anymore than we have already.

“The boys will get their heads down and show what they can do and I’m sure by the end of the season, hopefully we get through Christmas and come through the other side still in the top five or top six.  Hopefully we’ll have a good chance of hopefully getting into the play-off’s, which is what we want.

“If we get into the play-off’s it will be great for the club and great for the team.

“We’ve got a lot of budgets in this league that are a lot more than what we’re paying.  It’s not about getting all the money, it’s what players you’ve got and if they gel together and if we make the play-off’s it will be brilliant and on our day we can beat anybody, so that’s our aim.”
