The club is looking to go in the right direction, says new Milton & Fulston boss Aaron Perry

NEWLY appointed Milton & Fulston United boss Aaron Perry says he has targeted a top-six finish next season.

The Sittingbourne outfit finished third-from-bottom in the Haart of Kent County League Division One last season and they have appointed the former Margate, Ramsgate and Sittingbourne coach to turn things around.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” said the 28-year-old, whose previous clubs include Southampton (as an apprentice), Margate and AFC Wimbledon.

“It’s come at a great time for me, the job.  I had a year out last year. I done a bit with Gillingham Ladies the previous year and had a good season.

“It’s a good challenge for me. The club is looking to go in the right direction so hopefully it should be a good season for us.”

Perry took the job on yesterday to improve matters on the pitch.

He said:  “I had a good chat with the chairman and the secretary of the club to be fair and as I say they finished third-from-bottom last year.

“We’re looking to go in a different direction and hopefully with the players I’m going to bring in and with the experience I’ve got, with the mixture we can hopefully finish in the top-six and hopefully get out of the League.”

Perry says the club are targeting a place in the Kent Invicta League for season 2013-2014.

He said:  “Our aim is the Kent League itself and that’s our target.  At the moment our target is the Kent Invicta League and look from there.

“We’re not going too far ahead. We’re going to take it week by week and go from there.”

Perry will cast his eye on last season’s squad at next Saturday’s first pre-season training session and move them on if he feels they are not capable of improving matters on the pitch after the club finished  above AFC Sevenoaks and New Romney last season.

He said:  “There’s going to be a complete shake up if I’m honest.  We’ve had a look at the list we’ve got from last year and every player comes with a clean slate.  I don’t know any of the boys who played there last year.  There’s players I know we’re going to bring in.  Everyone will be given a fair crack of the whip.  We won’t write anyone off and we’ll invite anyone who feels they can offer something at pre-season training next weekend.

“We’ve worked hard for the last couple of days, myself especially since being appointed, on pre-season friendlies to make sure we’ve got the right basis.  The first training session will be light and we’ll just gage what we’ve got and what we have to sign.”

The club will confirm their pre-season campaign shortly but could face a couple of Ryman League clubs, who are managed and coached by two former Sittingbourne manager’s Richard Brady and Gary Abbott.

Perry said: “We’ve got some friendlies lined up.  We’re hoping to play Crockenhill and we’ll be playing Leatherhead reserves and I spoke to Abbo (Gary Abbott), who I am good friends with, having been at Sittingbourne together and hopefully he’ll speak to the Hastings manager to bring a side down.  We’ve got a couple of other games lined up so hopefully we’ll have a busy pre-season.”
