The FA Trophy is a good competition and we want to go as far as we can, says Jamie Day
The trio played under Pennock ten years ago and Fleet boss Day has a lot of respect for his former manager.
“I like the way Ady works and what he’s done in management,” Day told http://www.ebbsfleetunited.co.uk/, ahead of the FA Trophy Second Round tie.
“They’re going well in the league above and this will serve as a gauge as to where we are and where we want to be.”
Day told his club website that he is still running the rule over and continuing negotiations with potential targets that include a defender but warned his new players will have to bed in “sooner rather than later” as Fleet seek to improve on their current league position of seventh-place in the Vanarama Conference South, ten points adrift of leaders Boreham Wood.
Kedwell, a transfer coup from League One Gillingham, joins former Wycombe Wanderers captain Stuart Lewis, as new recruits at Stonebridge Road leading up to the game.
“We haven’t got time for players in bed in and get used to things and that’s why it’s important these players have non-league experience so they know what they’ll be coming up against,” said Day, who is managing a club that tasted FA Trophy glory under Liam Daish in 2008, when they defeated Torquay United 1-0 at Wembley Stadium.
“But the Trophy game is timely and it’s a good chance for the new boys to get a game together if they play.
“It’s a good competition and it would be brilliant to get as far as we can.”
Pennock, a former Fleet player and assistant manager, has guided Forest Green Rovers to seventh-place in the Vanarama Conference, two points adrift of fifth-placed Kidderminster Harriers, who came from behind to beat Dartford 2-1 at Princes Park last Saturday.
