The League must award us the points, says Yorath

MARGATE boss Terry Yorath says tonight’s 4-0 win over Canvey Island must stand - despite the game being abandoned with just eight minutes left to play due to a power failure.

The Park Lane pitch was plunged into darkness due to a power cut over in Canvey Island - and Yorath hopes Ryman League officials see sense and award his side the points.

The Ryman Premier League match was played in extremely wet and windy conditions, and the power supply to half the island was cut and the floodlights went with it.

When the lights failed to come back on when power to some of the island was restored, the match was abandoned.

Despite being reduced to ten-men, when Dan Young picked up two yellow cards, Margate scored twice at the end of the second half, through Aaron Lacy and Kenny Pratt.

And in the second half, Ryan Peters added a third from the penalty spot and Wayne Wilson completed the rout.

Yorath, speaking to www.margate-fc.com afterwards, was pleased with his side’s performance, and hopes his side will keep the points for their efforts, and if they do, the Thanet club will climb out of the relegation zone, in time for Saturday’s home showdown with a Dartford side that retained their place in the play-off’s with a goal-less draw at Hastings United tonight.

“Most of the first half we were pressing, mainly because we had a huge wind behind us,” he said.

“We got two goals late on, we could have had three or four in the first half.”

Speaking about his side’s second half performance, the Welshman added, “I thought the display was even better. We hit them on the break, got two goals with ten men - if that performance is taken away from the players, god help us.

“To have the floodlights go out with just eight minutes to go was a big disappointment. I just cant see how the League can turn this result around. It’ll be impossible. We’ve done nothing wrong.”
