There's lots to sort out before we apply for the Kent League, says Ashford Town chairman

ASHFORD TOWN have today appointed Tony Reynolds as the man to lead the club into a new era, writes Jack Wilson.
Reynolds is a former player and manager at the club, and arrives at Homelands with Paul Chambers to form the club’s new management team.
Reynolds has managed Ashford Town and Welling United in the past, and rejoins the club after a spell as boss in 2004.
An excited Reynolds is delighted to be back at Homelands and is relishing the challenge ahead.
“We want to get Ashford Town back on the map,” he told www.ashfordtownfc.co.uk.
“It’s a club with such a rich history. People like Alan and Audrey Lancaster, Ernie Warren and Doug Gillard, they all put so much into this club so it’s so sad to be in a position we are where we are now.
“We want to get the club back to where it belongs. We don’t know if we’ll be in the Kent League but wherever we are, we want the local support behind us.
“Creating local interest within the town is so important. There’s certainly enough local talent to form a good base of aside from. It’s no secret that we’ve missed out on a few players from the area in the past, hopefully now we can put that right.”
Reynolds and Chambers will be forced to build a new side from scratch next season, but it’s a challenge Reynolds is relishing.
“It’s hard to say what players we will be looking at - the league we are put in will do a lot to decide that. There’s some good old heads knocking about - Lee McRobert, Paul O’Brien, Matt Bower - they’re all good players that could play a part one way or another,” he said.
“Then we’ve got a good under-18 side at the club which are ours too, so with them and the help from Mark Patterson there, we will be strong.
“One thing I will do is give any good local players a chance. We’ll have trials and see what is about. I’ve sent feelers out – I’ve spoke to Teddy Revell and Martin Stevens who both manage local teams and asked them to keep me in touch if they see any players that catch their eye.”
Reynolds is also hoping to bring another new face in to help him and Chambers, but admits his target is pondering the offer and it’s in the balance.
“We want to bring another person in to help me and Chambo as we’re both busy people. I’ve spoken to someone who would be a massive asset but we’ll have to wait and see,” he added.
Chairman Ernie Warren is delighted that Reynolds is back at Homelands as Ashford Town’s new manager.
Mr Warren touched base with Reynolds after becoming temporary chairman of the club, and is pleased with the appointment.
He said: “We are delighted to welcome Tony to the club. He’s had a good career as a player and manager and hopefully he can continue that here.
“He is a very enthusiastic and passionate person to have around and I can’t think of anyone better to be our manager.
Reynolds has arrived with former team-mate Chambers, a man who Warren is too welcoming with open arms.
“The club have a management team to be proud of now. Paul’s a top man who, like Tony, has had some good years at the club,” Warren added.
Mr Warren also confirmed the club were in the process of preparing an application for the Kent League.
“We want to join the Kent League but there’s lots to sort out. As soon as we know more we’ll let everyone know.”
