There's no reason why Beckenham Town can't realise their full potential, says coach Darren Anslow

BECKENHAM TOWN coach Darren Anslow says he is expecting a spicy local derby against Fisher on Saturday.

Beckenham go into the game sitting in eighth-place in the Kent Hurlimann Football League table with 10 wins and four draws from 22 league outings, whilst Fisher arrive at Eden Park Avenue sitting in the bottom two, with two wins and five draws from 23 games.

”We’re expecting a very tough game on Saturday,” said Anslow.

”Obviously there is a lot of history between the two clubs that goes back years, but also as well as the fact that myself, Jason (Huntley) and Marksy (Michael Marks) all played at Fisher in the mid-nineties.

”There will be a number of players on the pitch on Saturday who have worn the shirts of both Beckenham Town and Fisher so that will definitely add spice to the game.”

The form book goes out of the window in local derbies and Anslow expects an entertaining game against Fisher, now jointly-managed by Martin Ford and Billy Walton.

”Knowing Billy and Martin they will have their team well prepared for Saturday’s game and I imagine that on the fantastic surface at Eden Park Avenue that both teams will be looking to get the ball down and play, so it should make for an entertaining game.”

The Beckenham Town management team are already planning for improvements next season.

Anslow said: ”I’m loving my time since I’ve come to Beckenham and we have a great set of boys.

”I think it’s fair to say that we are going through a transitional period at the moment and are really looking to build a team over the remainder of the season that with a good pre-season behind them will look to progress our league position and hopefully have some good Cup runs and challenge on some of those fronts.

”At the moment we have a relatively young side with some experienced players in key positions and it’s really a case of just trying to get them to blend together, become more consistent and for everybody at the club understanding what’s required of them in terms of commitment to both training and games.

“I think any managers working without a budget will say the same in terms of commitment, but I believe in being as professional as we can and everybody in the team, including the management, should be looking to compete at the highest level they possibly can and the players currently at Beckenham and the ones that come in the future will be under no illusion of what is expected of them.

”But with the right work ethic and organisation and with arguably one of the best playing surfaces in not only the Kent League but Ryman League and the work that’s just been completed at the ground, there is no reason why Beckenham Town shouldn’t realise their full potential.”
