There will be a turning point, says frustrated O'Brien
O’Brien has seen his side go five League games without a win - and they've lost their last four including Tuesday's Kent derby against Ramsgate.
Speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk after the game, O'Brien was clearly a frustrated man.
"What can we do?" he asked. "It was a typical Kent derby where whoever scores first won and so it proved.
“We had some real good chances to win a game of football but didn't take them - they had one chance which was saved, then blocked, before the fella followed up!
“But it sums us up at the moment - their keeper who was drafted in last minute, was Man of the Match, and that seems to happening a lot".
O'Brien continued, "I'm down because I thought that Tuesday was an opportunity to get our run going - Lew and I aren't used to losing spells - I've spoken to some experienced people in the game who have told me that runs like this happen.
"But there will be a turning point, but because we're young and perhaps a little bit naive I'm looking for that corner - the way we set our stall out and the way the boys pressed and played is a good sign for Saturday as the Met Police pitch is usually one of the better ones in this League. We didn't once roll over in midweek," he went on, " "all" we need to do now is to take a couple of the chances we create and we'll be back firing I'm sure.
"If you look at the games that we've lost recently, there have been stages where we've beaten ourselves - 3-0 down at Whyteleafe by half time speaks for itself - here against (Corinthian) Casuals, if you back off and give people chance to shoot from 20 yards with the wind behind them, they're always going to score goals and its little silly things like that that have cost us if you like, but Tuesday we defended well from set plays which is good - the only thing I'm down about is that we come away with nothing because we haven't taken our chances."
Turning his attention to the weekend, the Chats boss admitted that the "traditionally" good pitch and Ember Court "didn't really suit me! On the other hand, playing on the sort of surface that we're hoping for and perhaps expecting given that we have some great passers here who will enjoy it could be just what we need!”
But O'Brien was quick to acknowledge that his side face another difficult examination tomorrow.
He said: "Met Police are a very, very good side and always have been and I'm sure that to get anything at the weekend we're going to have to be as good as we were on Tuesday and still go up another level - it'll be that type of a game but who knows we could go there and bring the three points home and everyone is happy again!"
O'Brien will choose from a similar squad to Tuesday's defeat, with Brad Potter still out long term. Meanwhile midfielder Tom Davey has asked not to be considered for the Chats next few games due to work commitments.
