THE ROAD TO WEMBLEY: Herne Bay fancy their chances of causing a Cup shock - EXCLUSIVE

Friday 28th September 2007

www.kentishfootball.co.uk continue our previews of some of the FA Cup (Sponsored by E.ON) Second Qualifying Round ties this weekend - bringing news from Dover Athletic, Hythe Town, Herne Bay and Maidstone United.

Dover Athletic player-boss Andy Hessenthaler is sweating on the fitness of strikers Frannie Colin, James Dryden and Craig Wilkins, who all face fitness tests ahead of tomorrow’s showdown at Hythe Town.

But the former Gillingham boss adds Liam Quinn to his squad, but former Sittingbourne striker, Lee Browning, is cup-tied.

And Hessenthaler expects his Ryman League Division One South side to be too strong for the Kent League hosts.

“It’s going to be a tough game,” he said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk earlier today.

“It’s there cup final so we must be hard to play against and match them all over the pitch and then our quality will be good enough to win the game.”

Hythe Town, meanwhile, are without John Walker for the game against the Whites, whose suffering from a knee injury, but otherwise the Kent Leaguers have a full squad to pick from.

"We know it will be very hard and we know we are big underdogs but we are looking forward to it and we'll do our best," manager Paul Fisk said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk on the eve of the big game.

Another Kent League club, Herne Bay, will make sure they’ll enjoy their trip to Hayes & Yeading, the Blue Square Southern club.

And Bay chairman, Mr John Bathurst, is relishing their trip to Church Road, Hayes, west London - and has faith that his club can cause a shock.

“We’re going into unknown territory,” he said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk.

“I suppose when the draw was made if we had to choose a side from that division with them sitting at the bottom and no win under their belt, we would have welcomed their name coming out of the hat.

“Since then, they beat both Welling and Sutton 2-1 away and drew with Eastbourne at home.

“If we play like we did Saturday (a home 4-1 defeat to Colliers Wood in the FA Vase ) then we will get hammered but if we play as we did against Guildford City and Thamesmead then we must have an outside chance of beating higher opposition - after all it is the FA Cup.”

Jason Lillis is without the suspended Luke Harvey and Aaron Burrett is injured, but former Tunbridge Wells midfielder, Aaron O’Leary has returned to Winch’s Field and could make his first appearance of the season.

Mr Bathurst added: “Whatever the outcome, we will have a great day out!”

It was so good seeing Alan Walker, the joint manager of Maidstone United last week, back on his feet.

Walker’s side defeated local rivals Tonbridge Angels at Bourne Park last Saturday, before he watched Folkestone Invicta defeat Billericay Town two days later.

Walker will take the positives out of Invicta’s stunning 3-2 win at the Buzzlines Stadium, as the Stones travel to New Lodge to tackle the Essex side in the FA Cup tomorrow.

Walker revealed today that Sam Tydeman is back in the squad but Ben Lewis has still not completed his six-match ban.

Loan teenage sensation, Luis Cumbers, 19, has not been granted permission to play in the FA Cup by Gillingham, his parent club.

Long-throw specialist, Aaron Lacy, meanwhile, faces a fitness test before the Stones’ tough encounter.

Walker added: “It’s the hardest draw of the round but going on the back of three good wins.”

More previews will hopefully follow tonight.
