THE ROAD TO WEMBLEY: Underdogs can upset the favourites, warns Burman - EXCLUSIVE

Wednesday 10th October 2007

Dartford boss Tony Burman has challenged his side to knock Blue Square Southern club Bromley out of the FA Cup on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.

Burman takes his Ryman League Division One North side to Hayes Lane looking to upset the big-spenders.

“It’s a big game, we’re playing a Conference South side, and a good side at that,” Burman said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk.

He added: “We’re all looking forward to it, that’s for sure.”

The Darts began their FA Cup campaign by beating Leatherhead, but needed to win replays at both Sittingbourne and Camberley Town to get this far.

And Burman is relishing the underdog tag on Saturday.

“I think we was just favourites as we had the home ties really,” he said of Dartford’s previous three FA Cup ties.

“Two of the sides play at the same level as us and we’re good sides and had reasonable starts to their season.

“Camberley were the underdogs as they play at a level below us but they were top of their division and they nearly caused an upset to be fair.

“I was disappointed it went to a replay but we got through (on penalties) and that’s what the FA Cup brings to you.

“It’s an one-off match, the underdog and the favourites and sometimes the underdogs win and that’s why the FA Cup is so good.”

But Dartford have a very good chance to send Mark Goldberg and his players’ crashing out of the FA Cup.

“We are playing against a good side (but) we’ve got nothing to lose,” said Burman.

“I spoke to the players’ on Monday night and I told them to enjoy ourselves and that’s right up to five o’clock on Saturday.

He added: “I’ve watched Bromley and yes, they’re an excellent side, but as it’s the FA Cup, we’ll have a chance, and that’s how it is.”

But Burman insisted his side will not be fazed when playing at Hayes Lane, and have players that can cause them major problems.

“Some of our players have played in a high level of football and they’re experienced enough to go to places like Bromley and perform well and get a result,” he said.

“But above all I want them to enjoy the experience.

“I’d like to go as high as we can in the FA Cup but it mustn’t interfere from our main objective of the season - to get promoted.”

Burman revealed that his star-winger, Ryan Hayes, and full-back Tommy Osborne will be added to the squad.

“I’ve seen Bromley a couple of times in the past month and I know they’ve got a couple of injuries,” explained Burman.

“But potentially the players that they can put out are quality players all over the pitch.

“But I think we’re a good side as well and on our day I feel we can, not only perform, we will be able to beat sides.”
