The squad it going to be tested, says Welling United boss Jamie Day

WELLING UNITED player-manager Jamie Day says he will utilise every member of his playing squad during a busy period of the season. The Wings booked their place in the FA Carlsberg Trophy First Round following their 1-0 win over Cray Wanderers at Hayes Lane on Sunday afternoon.
Right-back Connor McLaren, 19, scored his first goal for the club with nineteen minutes remaining to win the game against the Ryman Premier Leaguers.
The Wings have been drawn at home to Blue Square Bet (Conference) Premier leaders Newport County in the First Round on 24 November.
But before that, the Wings welcome Ebbsfleet United to Park View Road to contest a Kent Senior Cup (Sponsored by Portablefloodlights.com) Second Round tie on Tuesday night.
When asked about team selection against Liam Daish’s side, Day revealed: “I think they’ll be the ones that didn’t play yesterday and some other ones who need game time as well still so they’ll be a strongish team out on Tuesday night with some younger lads who did well at Thamesmead.
“I think we have to respect Ebbsfleet because they’ll put out a strong side so we need to half match that.
“There’s six or seven players who need game time plus the younger ones. Hopefully we can get a result in that and move onto the next round.”
Welling United welcome Blue Square Bet (Conference) South leaders Salisbury City to Park View Road on Saturday and the Wiltshire side are eleven points clear of fifth-placed Welling, who have 22 points from 13 league games.
Day said: “They’ve got some decent results this season. They’ve got a lot of points on the board. Obviously full-time obviously helps but we know if we can play to what level we can play at, it will be a good game.
“Hopefully there will be a big crowd to come out and watch and we’ll put in a decent performance and hopefully get a win.
“It’s not going to be easy, they’re top for a reason for being the most consistent team this year so far and if we don’t perform we’ll come unstuck and get beat.
“We’ve got a busy two months so we’ve got to pick up as many wins as we possibly can because we want to stay around that top five if possible.
“There’s a lot of games now, the squad is going to be tested but I think this is the time where club’s with smaller budgets and smaller squads sometimes come unstuck so fingers crossed we don’t get any injuries.
“We’ve got eighteen fit players at the minute, which will be rotated round to keep everyone fit so players have to do their bit when they come on and start to perform and the ones on the bench have got to come straight in and be ready to go so everybody’s going to be used. It’s going to be a tough month.”
