The teams chucking big money around are the ones under pressure, says Bromley coach Hugo Langton

BROMLEY coach Hugo Langton says the club are not feeling under pressure as they bid to win their first league title in 53 years.



The Ravens were held to a 2-2 draw by Bath City at Hayes Lane at the weekend, but their eleven point lead at the top of the Skrill (Conference) South league table has now been cut to six points by Eastleigh.

Since the Spitfires suffered a shock 2-1 defeat away to struggling Tonbridge Angels on 17 February, they have won their last three games and are cranking up the pressure on Mark Goldberg’s side.

Eastleigh have two games in hand over Bromley, who have a better goal difference.

Both title challngers are in action on Tuesday night.  Eastleigh travel to eighth-placed Eastbourne Borough, who are three points adrift of fifth-placed Weston-super-Mare, while Bromley host third-placed Sutton United at Hayes Lane.

“Performance wise I thought we were excellent on Saturday,” reflected Langton.

“We created 12 good chances against one of the best sides in the league and that’s huge credit to our players.

“On another day we’d have won the game but goals win games.”

Bromley have exceeded all expectations this season and Langton insists the side are not feeling under pressure as full-timers Eastleigh continue to keep their own title challenge alive.

Langton said: “I keep hearing the word pressure but we are not under any pressure! Why would we be?

“The teams chucking big money around are the ones under pressure as they have to justify their league position and results.

“Other managers with bigger resources like to try to unsettle us with their chit chat in the press, but it doesn’t bother us.

“We are enjoying our season. No one will stop us enjoying it.  We’ve got an amazing changing room and I for one feel privilaged to be a part of it.

“There’s some excellent sides in the league and anyone can beat anyone on their day.

“No one expected us to be where we are and the fact that we are still top going into last two months of the season is incredible!

“To be involved in a title race, no matter where we end up, is exciting for us all.
“We will keep trying our best, what else can you do?  The rest will take care of itself.

“There’s no point worrying about anyone else.  We just want to focus on ourselves and do the best we can.”

Bromley have fourteen league games remaining and are still involved in both the Kent Senior Cup Sponsored by Portablefloodlights.com and the London Senior Cup Sponsored by Coventry Scaffolding.

Langton said: “We have to play a third of our season in two months. It’s the same for everyone and when you put it like that it sounds crazy doesn’t it?”

Bitter-rivals Sutton United visit Hayes Lane tomorrow night.

Paul Doswell’s side are in third-place in the table with 50 points from 28 games, 13 points adrift of The Ravens.

The Surrey outfit are on a seven match unbeaten run in the league and Langton expects a thrilling encounter against their rivals.

“Sutton are up next. They’re on a great run and it’s going to be a very hard game,” said Langton.

“They’ll be twists, turns, drama, last minute winners, referreing decisions, flying tackles, spectacular goals.  You name it, it’s going to happen.  How great is all that going to be?

“That’s why we all love football.”
