This is undoubtedly the worst player shortage I have endured in 4 years of management, admits Foley

CHATHAM TOWN boss Paul Foley has explained why defender Gary Cook has left the Maidstone Road club, writes Stephen McCartney.
“Unfortunately Gary Cook has decided to move on as he wanted to be guaranteed first team football,” Foley told www.chathamtownfc.net today.
“After sitting out four games through suspension Cooky was on the bench for two games and felt he should be playing.
“It is always tough to break in after you have missed the start of the season and it is easier said than down to be patient and wait your turn but that’s how it is unfortunately. I wish him all the best wherever he lands.
Chatham’s next two games are at home - against Walton & Hersham on Saturday - and a Kent derby against Faversham Town next Tuesday.
The Swans have appointed former Godalming Town boss Chuck Martini as their new manager, whilst the Lilywhites are adjusting to life in the Ryman League.
Chatham go into Saturday’s game sitting in 12th place in the Ryman League Division One South table with a record of three wins from their opening seven games, whilst Walton & Hersham arrive in Kent inside the bottom two.
Foley said: “With back to back home games we have an opportunity to get back to winning ways but they will be two tough games for different reasons.”
Speaking about team personnel, the former VCD Athletic boss said: “We are getting close to having a full squad of players to choose from with Kevin Watson and Uche Ibemere coming through 90 minutes for the reserves on Tuesday. Kevin Winchcombe and Jason Barton are both available this week also having missed last week’s game at Bognor through work and illness respectively.
“We are hoping to have James Tedder back too following treatment this week on his ankle injury. These are five key players and along with Anthony Hogg and Gary Cook’s 4 game suspensions at the start of the campaign, the full squad has not been available together all season.
“With these injuries and suspensions (including Matt Sollys) it is undoubtedly the worst player shortage I have endured in 4 years of management but there is little point bleating about it! We will be fine soon.”
Bognor Regis Town are in fourth place thanks to their 3-1 home win over the Medway outfit last weekend, and Foley said: “The Bognor game had signs of improvement and was much better than the Ramsgate performance. They are the best side we have played by far and they have to be one of the favourites for the title.”
