To ask for consistency every week takes time or experience, says Sittingbourne boss Nick Davis

SITTINGBOURNE manager Nick Davis says he’s expecting an entertaining game in the early kick-off against Guernsey tomorrow.



The Brickies have slipped down the Ryman League Division One South table to eleventh-place with 35 points from 26 games after winning one of their last eight league games.

Guernsey arrive in Kent sitting in seventeenth-place in the table, having collected 28 points from 26 games.

The Green Lions came away from Whitstable Town with a 4-3 win last Saturday, but lost at Worthing by the same scoreline in midweek.

They have shipped in 69 goals in the league this season and Davis wants his inconsistent side to take advantage.

He said: “Guernsey are a little unpredictable on what players travel with them away from home so it’s difficult to know what side they will be bringing.

“I have been told they are a little younger this year and that is showing with their inconsistent form.

“They are conceding a lot but are scoring at the same time so it has the makings of an entertaining game.

“It’s a really important game for us as we have two really tough Kent derbies over Christmas and it would be a good platform for us to get the three points.

“We’re an honest bunch with no superstars and we have to learn to do the horrible parts of the game to then be allowed to play our football.

“We have worked really hard in training this week on our shape and working on ways to break down stubborn defensive lines.

“Like in any line of football it’s all about scoring and with the loss of Ryan Golding and Joe Taylor, who scored over 100 goals over the last two years for this club, it was always going to be a big hole to fill.”

After tomorrow’s game against the Channel Islanders, Sittingbourne travel to third-placed Faversham Town on 27 December, before welcoming fourth-placed Folkestone Invicta to Woodstock Park on New Years’ Day.

“I think what the committee and chairman would want most from this Christmas period would be two healthy attendances against Guernsey and Folkestone,” said Davis, fully aware that recent home crowds have dropped.

“We will continue to fight for every point and try and play the game in the right way.

“We will win one, draw one, lose and that will be the trend because my side are young and they’re learning and on our day we are decent.

“To ask for a level of consistency week in, week out, takes time or experience.”
