Tommy Warrilow brings John Beales back home to Longmead Stadium

Friday 14th January 2011
TONBRIDGE ANGELS boss Tommy Warrilow has brought central defender John Beales, 27, back home to Longmead Stadium, writes Stephen McCartney.

Beales signed for Hastings United in July 2010, where he made 23 appearances, scoring 3 goals, before departing The Pilot Field last month, after a season at Dartford, where he won a Ryman Premier League championship winners medal.

He began his career with Tonbridge Angels, progressing through the youth and reserve teams at Longmead, to make his full debut in October 2002.

After six highly consistent seasons, he earned a trial with Bristol Rovers, only for a cruciate ligament injury sustained against Hendon to rob him of a move to a professional club and rule him out for the entire 2008/09 campaign.

Beales recently returned to Dartford for a short spell, but Warrilow unveiled his return to the club last night.

Warrilow issued a statement on the club’s website www.tonbridgeangels.co.uk, saying, “I know supporters will all be delighted to see John again in an Angels shirt and it is nice to welcome back a player who has come up through our system.

“I tried to get John back a while ago but it never materialised and at the second attempt I am pleased to say a few things have changed and we managed to put pen to paper this time.

“Anyone that knows me will know I don’t just sign any player to make numbers up and for the sake of it. John is a very good footballer who has lots of ability and to underline this had other clubs from our level and above interested in him.

“The nice thing for John is that he has nothing to prove to anyone at our club and can come straight back and relax, play and enjoy his football.

“He knows there is competition for shirts and is looking forward to helping us achieve our goal of getting out this league.”

Meanwhile, Warrilow updated Scott Gooding’s situation, after the club captain was  stretchered off after only 12 minutes of Tuesday night’s 2-1 home win over Hendon.

He said: “We are still awaiting news on the injury Scott Gooding picked up Tuesday night.

“His knee was understandably very sore and swollen the following morning but has eased off since and he is walking on it.

“We are awaiting an appointment with his surgeon and a scan at the moment so until that is done we can’t really say what Scott has done. He is obviously upset at the moment but hopefully the injury is not too bad and he is a strong boy who will bounce back from this and play a big part in the Angels future.”

The manager of sixth-placed Tonbridge added: “Even before this injury I was looking to bring a player in to help with our busy schedule of games coming up and I am delighted to say I have managed to sign John Beales and welcome him back to the Angels.”
