Tom Phipp pens new contract at Ebbsfleet United

Wednesday 30th May 2012
EBBSFLEET UNITED manager Liam Daish says he is delighted that home-grown midfielder Tom Phipp has re-signed for the club today.

Phipp, 19, who is described as an exciting attacking midfield prospect, graduated from local football and attracted the attentions of Premier League giants Arsenal where he spent five years in the youth ranks.

At under 18 level, he won and scored in the FA County Youth Cup Final with Kent in 2010, having finished as a losing finalist a year earlier.

Having joined the Fleet’s PASE youth set-up, Phipp signed a first-team contact at Stonebridge Road in the summer of 2010.

Although touted as one for the future, nobody quite expected the impact he made in Fleet's 2010-11 promotion season as he quickly established himself as first-choice in midfield, going on to play almost 50 times in his debut season and scoring 12 goals, including two spectacular long-range strikes in quick succession against Dorchester Town.

A tireless runner and hard worker, the Blue Square Bet Premier could be just the stage for one of the Fleet's young guns to shine this season.

Daish, who performs miracles every season to get the best out of players on limited budget compared to the Kent club’s rivals, is pleased that the midfielder has put pen to paper on a new contract.

He told www.ebbsfleetunited.co.uk : “Tom Phipp graduated from local football and joined the Fleet’s PASE youth set-up.  Tom first signed for the club in 2010 and has featured regularly in the squad ever since.

“He showed last season that he is prepared to work hard for the team and played on several occasions out of position when injury hit other team members.

“I am delighted that he is back with us.”

Fleet chairman Jessica McQueen added: “It is good news that Tom has once again chosen to sign for Ebbsfleet United.

“His dedication and commitment to the club is very much appreciated by us all.”

MyFootballClub vice-chairman Andy Coleman added: “It’s fantastic to see a young player with such promise stay with The Fleet for another year.

“Fans’ have enjoyed watching Tom’s progress from The Fleet’s youth team to first team regular.

“I hope another 12 months at Stonebridge Road will see many more great performances from Tom.”
