We know it will be a tough task to win the league but we need to chase the team in front first and then go from there, says Tonbridge Angels' assistant Barry Moore

TONBRIDGE ANGELS assistant manager Barry Moore says it will be a tough task for his side to win the league title.

The Angels are in third-place in the Ryman Premier League table with 63 points from 36 of their 46 league games remaining, and they host the side immediately below them in the table, who have the same number of points in the bag.

“We are looking forward to Needham Market tomorrow in what will be the second very tough game in a row,” said Moore on the vital clash at Longmead Stadium.

“When we played them at their place we caught them early in the game with two goals which we hung on to and got three points and I’m sure Saturday is going to be a very tough game against a well-organised side who have experience alongside young players.

“Their management team have done a great job turning a relegation battle last season to a promotion pushing side this season and we will have to be at our very best to get a result.”

The Angels were held to a 1-1 draw by second-placed Havant & Waterlooville in midweek, before Steve McKimm’s men travel to sixth-placed Leiston next Tuesday in a massive week for the Kent club.

“Tuesday’s game against Havant & Waterlooville was a good game in terms of both sides trying to win and not settle for a draw and we were disappointed that we lost concentration once in 90 minutes and it cost us all three points,” said Moore.

“Having said that, Havant are an efficient side who have quality so a draw is a positive result going into Needham, then another top team in Leiston on Tuesday night.

“In regards to our remaining fixtures, ourselves and the players are going to stay in a positive mood and with the likes of Andre McCollin getting more match time and Sonny Miles not far away in terms of fitness our squad is getting strong and stronger with all the boys pushing each other to get three points in every game."

With his club six points adrift of league leaders Bognor Reigs Town, Moore added: “We know it will be a tough task to win the league but we need to chase the team in front first and then go from there.

“The top seven or eight teams have all got to play another, some play each other twice so it should be an exciting end to the season for us. The players and the fans who on Tuesday against Havant were superb with their support and I’m sure they will be vocal and positive tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, central defender George Beaven and 13-goal striker Alex Akrofi have signed contracts to stay at the club until the end of next season.
