Jon Heath was a manager's dream, says Tonbridge Angels boss Steve McKimm

TONBRIDGE ANGELS have confirmed that long-serving left-back Jon Heath has hung up his boots through injury.

Heath suffered a torn cartilage towards the end of last season in the same knee that had caused some significant problems a couple of seasons ago.

Following a scan it has been decided that the 29-year-old needs an operation.

With no confirmed date for that to happen and with no guarantee that following the operation he would be able to play semi-professional football again there was realistically little choice for the time being to call a halt to playing.

Heath made over 200 first team appearances for his only club, without getting on the scoresheet.

Manager Steve McKimm told the club’s website: “Jon was a manager’s dream. Very much a one club player, unusual these days.  He was always so popular with colleagues and supporters alike and always gave 100% for the club, which he had played for since he was a young lad.

“We thank him for all his efforts over the years, wish him the very best of luck in the future and hope he will be able to regularly visit Longmead here he will always be given a warm welcome.

“Maybe one day we might see Jon in an Angels shirt again.”

Meanwhile, former Tonbridge Angels and Cray Wanderers striker Alex Teniola has signed for Ryman Premier League VCD Athletic.
