The formation of a ladies section is something that the club has always been keen on developing, says Tonbridge Angels chairman Steve Churcher

TONBRIDGE ANGELS are proud to add a Ladies side to their portfolio next season.

Tonbridge Ladies FC were formed during the 2015 Women's World Cup in Canada when Mark Sampson's England Lionesses were bronze medal winners.

The team have been enjoying weekly training sessions since June and will seek membership of the South East Counties League next season.  Until then, the team will be offering friendlies to other clubs in the area.

Loyal Tonbridge Angels fans Chloe Derrick and Sarah Hancock got the ball rolling back in June, enlisting club volunteer Dan Couldridge to help with coaching and recruiting players via word-of-mouth and social media.

The sessions have been an enormous success with over 40 female players attending across the summer.

“We through we would see how it went for a few weeks in the summer, but it has snowballed and we are regularly getting 18-20 girls down to train,” Couldridge (back row, far right) told www.tonbridgeangelsonline.co.uk .

“We have a great mix of beginners of all ages, experienced heads and young talent. They can’t wait to test themselves against similar sides in Kent.”

Tonbridge Angels chairman Steve Churcher said he is happy to take the side under the club’s wings.

“The formation of a ladies section is something that the club has always been keen on developing and great credit goes to Dan and the ladies for training hard and putting together a team that will wear the Tonbridge Angels badge on their shirts.

“It also ticks another box in the journey to becoming a community club that our owners can be proud of.”

Training sessions take place on Thursday nights at 6:30pm at Hayesbrook School.
