Too many players are playing on reputations and have not got the heart, fumes Nott
Wednesday 07th April 2010
MAIDSTONE UNITED boss Peter Nott has issued an apology to supporters after his side suffered a humiliating 5-0 defeat at home to play-off chasing Hastings United on Easter Monday, writes Stephen McCartney.
The Stones slipped down a place into the bottom three of the Ryman Premier League table following their highest defeat of the season.
Nott, who has picked up 10 points from his 13 games in charge since taking over from Lloyd Hume and Alan Walker, was clearly upset at the final whistle.
“I would like to make an apology to the supporters and the people connected with the club,” Nott told www.maidstoneunited.co.uk.
“The level of performance is unacceptable. We have had a screaming and a ranting session with the players in there.
“They have been told that there are too many of them who are playing on reputation or previous reputation and have not got the heart and desire to see us out of this predicament that we are in.”
The club have now gone eight league games without a win, and have only six games left to avoid relegation and are three points from safety.
They travel to seventh-placed AFC Hornchurch on Saturday, before welcome two fellow sides in the relegation zone in Waltham Abbey (13 April) and Bognor Regis Town (15 April) in what are two massive six-pointers.
Nott would be looking for a good points haul from those two home games, before ending their campaign against Ashford Town (Middlesex), Hendon and a trip to runners-up elect Kingstonian.
