We’ve made some great memories already this season and we go to Hamworthy tomorrow as one, with the challenge to go and create another magical moment for everyone, says Tunbridge Wells boss Richard Styles
TUNBRIDGE WELLS manager Richard Styles says he wants his side to create more memorable moments when they travel to Hamworthy United in the FA Vase Last sixteen tomorrow.
Tim Sills’ side are sitting at the top of the Wessex League Premier Division table, having collected 65 points from their 28 league games and sit a point clear of Horndean but with two games in hand, having lost just once in the league this season.
The Hammers’ last suffered a defeat on their artificial pitch at The County Ground back in March 2020, when they lost 2-1 to Downton in the Bournemouth Senior Cup, 34 home games ago.
The Hammers go into tomorrow’s contest on an impressive 13 match unbeaten run and ended Glebe’s Wembley dream by beating the Chislehurst-based side 3-2 in the last round, despite Harry Hudson’s side playing with 10 men for 86 minutes.
Before that, however, The Hammers beat Corsham Town (4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw), Cadbury Heath (6-5 on penalties after a 1-1 draw), Andover New Street (2-1), Royal Wootton Bassett (3-1) all away from home.
Tunbridge Wells are sitting in tenth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table, having collected 34 points from 21 games.
The Wells – who lost 2-1 to now National League North side Spennymoor in the 2013 FA Vase Wembley Final – reached this stage of the competition by beating Roffey (4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw), Hilltop (3-2), Walton & Hersham (1-0) and Wallingford Town (4-2) and they found themselves 2-0 down at Bridgwater United last month before Robbie Bissett scored a last-gasp equaliser to take the game to a penalty shoot-out, winning it 5-3.
“Were all looking forward to the game. We are expecting a tough game as anyone would being at this stage of a national competition and know we need to be at our best,” said Styles.
“Preparation has gone well and we’re happy with everything that has been put in place ready for us tomorrow.
“These are the events and occasions we as a club, staff, the players and the fans want to be a part of.
“These are the games you remember and also look back on in years to come. We’ve made some great memories already this season and we go again together tomorrow in the stands, the dug-out, the dressing room and on the pitch as one, with the challenge to go and create another magical moment for everyone.
“As you can see, we highly-regard our fans and how close we feel to them. They were our 12th man at Bridgwater in the last round and I have no doubt they will perform for us all tomorrow.
“The FA Vase for every club, player and staff member at this level is huge because it’s a national competition. We hold it with very high regard and love every game in it ever year.”
