My beautiful family deserve to have me around more and a fast-growing business, football has had its time, says retiring Jack Hopkins

Former VCD Athletic midfielder Jack Hopkins has announced his retirement from the game, citing family and work commitments as the reasons behind his decision to hang up his boots.

Hopkins has played for Thamesmead Town, East Thurrock United, Phoenix Sports and VCD Athletic during his non-league career and will be missed by those within the game.

“After so many ups and downs, tens of goals, hundreds of appearances and a thousand miss-timed tackles, I’m hanging up my boots,” said Hopkins.

“My beautiful family deserve to have me around more and a fast-growing business, football has had its time.

“I walk away from the game sad but with also a great deal of gratitude.

“My four clubs, Thamesmead Town, East Thurrock, Phoenix Sports and VCD, you are all fantastic clubs and thanks for having me.

“One thing football has given me is memories and mates for life. It brings communities together and I wouldn’t have met and crossed paths with so many great people without it.

“To the handful of gaffers and team-mates I’ve played for and with over the years, thanks for the memories.”
