VCD ATHLETIC are pleased to announce that Charlton Athletic have approached the club with a view to playing a friendly fixture at Oakwood on Wednesday night. The Crayford-based club have defeated Beckenham Town (5-1) and Cray Valley (2-0) in the Kent League so far this season.
And goals from Billy Shinners, Billy Bennett, Uche Ibemere and Karl Dent sealed a 4-3 win at Dorking in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round today.
Ricky Bennett’s side will now face Ryman League Division One South side Whitstable Town in the Preliminary Round on 25 August.
Championship outfit Charlton Athletic will be bringing over a mix of players, which should make for an invaluable workout for the early Kent League leaders.
Vickers’ match secretary Brian Norris said: “Following further discussions with Charlton representatives, VCD were more than happy to take up the fixture. With no midweek game this week it gives the players a welcome break from training and an excellent opportunity to put their skills against such opposition.
“The club would like to thank Charlton Athletic and hope that this could lead to becoming a regular fixture for the club in coming seasons.”
The match at Oakwood, Old Road, Crayford, will kick-off at 7:30pm.
