Versatile players are worth their weight in gold, says Erith Town boss Steve O'Boyle

ERITH TOWN boss Steve O’Boyle says he is happy with life at present as he prepares his side for a big seven days of Cup football, writes Stephen McCartney.
Welling resident O’Boyle drove 100-yards (he did have the kit and equipment with him) to get to Park View Road on Tuesday night to see his side come away from local rivals Erith & Belvedere with a comfortable 3-0 win.
Two former Sevenoaks Town players, Chris Walker and Billy Shinners got on the score sheet along with left wing-back Lawrence Collins, in what was an impressive display from O’Boyle’s men.
Erith Town travel to Raynes Park Vale in the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Carlsberg Vase on Saturday, before welcoming Kent giants Dover Athletic (third in Blue Square Bet South) in the FA Cup seven days later.
“We’ve got two weeks off in the league, we’re going to enjoy Saturday in the Vase and we’re going to enjoy our day against Dover in two weeks time and then we’ll see what happens after that,” O’Boyle, whose side are now sixth in the Safety Net Associates Kent League, told www.kentishfootball.co.uk.
O’Boyle said he will be fully prepared for Combined Counties League outfit Raynes Park Vale, watching their home game against Croydon, which the Trams won 2-0, leaving Vale second from bottom in the table after eight games.
The Dockers boss said: “We went to watch that to do as much as we can to help the boys and obviously hopefully we can go there and if we play like we did against Erith & Belvedere again I think we’ll be hard to beat.”
Erith Town have unveiled the signing of the versatile Peter Smith from Ryman League Division One North side Thamesmead Town and he is available to play in both Cup games.
“He can play up front, he can play out wide, he can play in the middle, he can play at the back,” added O’Boyle.
“Those players are worth their weight in gold to you during the course of the season. He’s also a good player, scores goals and he’ll fit in lovely here. He’s a good signing for us.
“He’s not played in the FA cup so he’s not cup-tied so he’s added to the squad. All I say is we don’t want to shift too many players about, we’re happy with the squad we’ve got . We don’t want to get too many in, we don’t want too many to leave either.”
