Vickers beat the big freeze to keep in shape
The management have called in their extensive contacts to use a covered training facility that houses two full size 3G astroturf pitches.
The facility would be the envy of many Premier League clubs so how did a part time Ryman League club manage to source a training facility like this?
With a former professional footballer in Mark Newson acting as assistant manager and with manager Paul Foley being the son of former Arsenal assistant manager and former Charlton Athletic manager Theo, it is perhaps less surprising.
The first team held a practice match against VCD's under 21 side on Saturday at the facility running out 3-0 winners with a fine brace from Aaron Firth and a header from Danny Penny.
The Crayford based club have been using the facility for two months beating the freeze and snow that would normally seriously affect training sessions.
The reserve side have been teaming up with the first team squad creating a real club warmth to beat the chill!
The facility allows full sized games to be played on the revolutionary soft astro turf pitch which has a full cover from the elements.
The squad is now back to full strength with Anthony Hogg and Chris Tedder both available for selection and keeper Jack Bradshaw pushing James Tedder all the way following recent performances for the reserves.
Long term casualty Kane Rice, who has not played all season following a knee injury sustained in the friendly against Dartford, has been given the all clear from a specialist to continue rehabilitation following a recent MRI scan and is expected to join up with the squad for training soon.
VCD are due to take on Waltham Forest at Oakwood on Saturday, with the club hopeful that the game will be on.
