Vickers' Cup clash will take the pressure off us, says Hythe Town boss Scott Porter

Monday 21st March 2011
HYTHE TOWN boss Scott Porter says there is still a long way to go in their Kent League Cup tie against VCD Athletic, when the two sides clash at Oakwood on Tuesday night, writes Stephen McCartney.

Porter’s side go into the second leg of the semi-final tussle 2-1 to the good, courtesy of two first half goals from leading goalscorer Brendon Cass, when the two sides met at Reachfields Stadium on the first day of the month.

Third-placed VCD Athletic, who came away from Tunbridge Wells with a 3-0 league victory at the weekend, pulled a goal back through Daniel Westerman, but the tie is still alive going into the second leg.

Porter admits the Kent League Cup tie will ease the pressure as his side go head-to-head with Herne Bay for the Kent League title in a nine-game shoot-out.

“It will take the pressure off with the league so we’ll go there, it will be a tough game, as it always is against them and we‘re looking forward to it” said Porter.

“It will be nice to get to a final, but it’s still a long way to go in that game and like I say they won’t lie down and it will be a battle  like it has been for the last few weeks.”

Hythe Town lead Herne Bay by just one point, although Porter’s side do have a far more superior goal-difference and the clash between the two sides at Herne Bay’s Winch’s Field on 6th April is billed as The Title Decider, as both title challengers are on an excellent run of form.  Hythe are now unbeaten in fourteen games, and Herne Bay have won their last nine games.

The winner of tomorrow night’s tie will lock horns with Herne Bay in the Kent League Cup Final, which is expected to be played at Folkestone Invicta’s Cheriton Road on Saturday 7 May.
