Vickers unveil Ricky Bennett as their new manager
He replaces Paul Foley, 38, who took charge of Ryman League side Chatham Town earlier in the month.
The popular Bennett, who has been involved with the Crayford based club since 2000, when he signed as a striker under Martin Ford, later became manager of the club’s under 15s, 16s, 18s and managed the reserve side last season.
He brings a wealth of experience to the role, having played for Tilbury, Dartford, Erith & Belvedere, Deal Town and Cray Wanderers among others, and has won every honour available at Kent League level, plus an FA Vase winners medal in May 2000 for Deal Town at Wembley.
A club statement issued to www.kentishfootball.co.uk today said: “Despite a number of applications for the position, the club felt it was important to keep the continuity going and are confident that Ricky will be able to quickly adapt to life in either the Ryman League or Kent League, depending on the outcome of the appeal to the Football Association against demotion from the Ryman League.
“His excellent man management skills and important contacts in the game will stand him in good stead during the coming months, and the committee were impressed with his ambitions for the club and will give every assistance possible to achieve success.
“Andy Silk who was coach last season will now become assistant manager/coach and will work closely with Ricky on team matters. Despite an offer to join Chatham Town, Andy has decided to stay with the Vickers and his experience will prove a great asset as the club strives to progress.”
Meanwhile, the club confirm that they are in the throes of producing a new website and the work is ongoing.
