Walker wants Hegley to stay

NICK HEGLEY’S future at Maidstone United hangs in the balance, according to joint-manager Alan Walker.

The boss had talks with the flying winger yesterday to try to keep him at the Ryman Premier League club.

“A lot of supporters are keen to know about Nick Hegley,” Walker told www.maidstoneunited.co.uk.

“I’ve had a long chat with Nick and feel positive about his future with the club.

“However, he has a few irons in the fire - some clubs higher up the pyramid are looking at him.

“We would like to see Nick stay with the club - I know he loves playing for Maidstone United.

“Like with any player, we cannot guarantee first team football week in, week out. However, we hope that in a stronger side Nick will shine even more.

“I’ll reinforce our desire to see him stay but I fully expect that he wants to keep his options open for the time being.”

The Stones who maintained their Ryman Premier League status with a 1-0 win at Folkestone Invicta on the last day of last season, have spoken to Ray Freeman and invited him back for pre-season training.

Walker added: “There’s no deal as yet, we want to see how things go.”

Meanwhile, the Stones will play FA Trophy holders Ebbsfleet United in a pre-season friendly at Stonebridge Road on Saturday, 2nd August (3pm).
