Walton & Hersham snap up four familiar faces

Monday 29th June 2009
RECENTLY installed Walton & Hersham boss John Crumplin has spread his net to our part of the world to sign some familiar faces - as he prepares for his first season in charge of the Surrey club, writes Stephen McCartney.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion star was unveiled as the club's new manager - and the 42-year-old will be assisted by former Bromley, Kingstonian and Redhill boss Stuart McIntyre.

And four former Maidstone United players have already signed for the Stompond Lane club.

Full-back Jason Barton has arrived from McIntyre's previous club Redhill and long-throw specialist, midfielder Aaron Lacy ended last season with Margate.

And two players have signed from Bulmers Cider Kent League champions VCD Athletic, with striker Simon Austin and winger Nick Hegley deciding to move from Oakwood as the Crayford club prepare for their inaugural Ryman League Division One North campaign.

Crumplin, who took over as Walton & Hersham's new manager on 8 June, wanted to sign some experienced players.

"The first thing will be to bring in some experienced players," he told www.waltonandhershamfc.org.uk.

"There is a very good young squad there, but we need some experienced heads and I will be bringing in some of my players as soon as I can."

Crumplin, meanwhile, is looking forward to working with his Scottish assistant.

He said: "Stuart is a tremendous coach - he has vast experience and know-how.  In fact I would say he is by far the best coach I have ever worked with."
