Ward rallies his tired troops - EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW
Ramsgate manager Jim Ward has rallied his tired troops ahead of their trip to Boreham Wood on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.
The Rams travel to Hertfordshire on the back of two defeats at the hands of Hampton & Richmond Borough and Tonbridge Angels but the Scot has urged his team to believe in themselves more following their little blip.
A hat-trick from Jon Main, Angels’ goalscoring machine, did the damage as the 25-year-old hit-man netted his SIXTH hat-trick of the season, thus taking his tally up to 31 for the season.
Stuart Vahid and Ollie Schulz took their tallies for the season to four apiece as Ramsgate rallied during the second half after Ward admitted that his side “weren’t at the races” during the first period.
But Ward believes his side, that always find promotion winning form during the business end of the season, are more than capable of rediscovering that form to secure a play-off place.
“The play-off’s are a bit….we will have to go on a good run,” he said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk after their derby defeat at a frosty Betterview Longmead Stadium on Tuesday night.
“We said we have to get two points a game out the last eighteen. The last four we’ve got six points so we’re not a million miles off targets and tonight was always going to be a difficult place to come to.
“But against Boreham Wood If we can get three points Saturday it puts us near where our targets was the first place so we can only be positive.”
Ward’s men are heading to Southwood Stadium tonight for a massage after being given the week off from the rigours of training.
“They’re feeling a bit sorry for themselves at the moment,” revealed Ward. “There’s a few that could do with having a rest but we can’t afford to give them a rest so we’ll just dig in and get on with it.”
But Ward has issued his tired side a rallying cry for their trip to Meadow Park, adding: “Keep believing. Just keep believing, that’s all.
