Warrilow sees Mingle as a replacement for Minshull

Tuesday 29th June 2010
TONBRIDGE ANGELS boss Tommy Warrilow last night unveiled the signing of former Braintree Town midfielder Jacob Mingle, 24, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Angels have set themselves a target of clinching promotion out of the Ryman Premier League next season and to play Blue Square Premier football inside a five-year timescale.

Warrilow has been busy this summer to bring high calibre of players to Longmead Stadium and the former Horsham assistant manager is looking forward to working with Mingle again, having done so a few years ago with the West Sussex outfit.

Mingle, who had a great season at Braintree Town last year, helping the Essex side to seventh in Blue Square South – one division higher than Tonbridge Angels – was due to start pre-season with a Conference side but has decided to join the ambitious Kent club instead.

And the Angels boss sees Mingle as a replacement for 17 goal Lee Minshull, 24, who opted for a free transfer move to Blue Square Premier side AFC Wimbledon this summer, to become a professional footballer on a two-year contract.

“When I coached Jacob, he was encouraged to attack more form midfield like Lee Minshull was and he will be told to do the same with Tonbridge,” Warrilow told the club website www.tonbridgeangels.co.uk.

“He has had Football League interest over the last couple of seasons and being only 24 years old still wants to get into the professional game.

“He listened to how ambitious the club is and showed me during our talks with his answers and with the questions he was asking that he wanted to be part of it.

“I believe with a good pre-season under his belt, he is another player who can fulfil his ambition and most importantly help us achieve our goal.

“His non-stop work ethic will make him very popular with the fans and he is a top lad too.

“He knows there will be stiff competition in the midfield area and is looking forward to challenging for his shirt in the starting eleven this season".

This latest acquisition is not the signing that was due for announcement at the end of June.

A club statement added:  “After lengthy discussions with the player in question all parties have agreed to put things on hold until his personal position becomes clearer.

“We are assured this deal is by no means dead and hopefully we will able to welcome him on board at a later date but this could be after the season has started.”

Meanwhile, the club have confirmed their admission and season ticket prices for the season ahead.

£10 (adults), £5 (concessions), £3 (children under 14)
