We always bounce back from a bad defeat, insists Becks' number two Michael Marks

Wednesday 15th December 2010
BECKENHAM TOWN face a tough examination if they are to reach the LAST 32 of the FA Carlsberg Vase against Norfolk giants King’s Lynn Town, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Linnets arrive at Eden Park Avenue on an eleven match unbeaten run and are the bookmakers favourites to ease past Jason Huntley’s side.

King’s Lynn are presently in fourth place in the United Counties League and Beckenham go into the game on the back of a disappointing 2-1 home defeat to arch-rivals Fisher, who ended their seven match losing streak thanks to a couple of goals from eighteen-year-old midfielder Halusi Mustafa in a hastily arranged game on Monday night.

Beckenham assistant manager Michael Marks, who was speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk, insists the Kent League side will not need any motivating ahead of their largest home crowd of the season.

“Please God they’re big enough and strong enough to pick themselves up,“ said the towering Marks.

“They won’t need a lot of picking up because if you can’t pick yourselves up for the Vase game, if we win the game we’ve got a lovely trip to Newcastle.”

The winners of Saturday’s much-delayed tie will travel to Northern League outfit Norton & Stockton Ancients on 22 January 2011.

Marks added: “If you look at it you’re (so close) from Wembley, so at this standard of football there’s not a lot you can hope for as a player so as I say we need picking up a little bit but hopefully the game itself will do the trick for them.”

Beckenham officials are preparing for an invasion from King’s Lynn supporters - especially considering that only 33 watched their game against Fisher.

“I believe they’re bringing a few,” added Marks, who will be boosted with the return from suspension of Nick Curren and skipper Danny Lawson on Saturday.

“We always bounce back, the one thing we do have is we do bounce back from bad defeats.

“No disrespect to Fisher, they’ve gone and beat us but I think you’ll see a different side on Saturday.

“It’s massive for us, it’s one of the biggest games we’ll have, other than the FA Cup tie at St Albans.

“This is one of our biggest games we’ve had in a long, long time, maybe their biggest, I don’t know.

“I just want it to come now, the quicker it comes, like I said in the changing room afterwards, the best thing about football is you don’t have to wait long to put things right again so please God Saturday will come.

Marks issued a rallying cry from local fans to get behind his side.

“We’ll be ever so grateful,” he added.  “We need all the support we can get.  It’s a lovely little club here and we need as much support as we can get.”
