We are currently in budget discussions for next year, says Sittingbourne boss Nick Davis

SITTINGBOURNE player-manager Nick Davis warns budget cuts may force him to lose a couple of players next season.

The Brickies are coming to the end of a gruelling 46-match league campaign, with three more league games left to play.

The club are completing their first season at Woodstock Park and are in sixteenth-place in the Ryman League Division One South table, having collected 14 wins, 12 draws and 17 defeats in the league this season.

Sittingbourne welcome already relegated side Crawley Down Gatwick to Broadoak Road on Easter Saturday.

The Sussex side have certainly suffered from second season syndrome and are expected to make a return to the Sussex County League next season.

They have collected 9 wins, 6 draws and 28 defeats in the league this season, but joint-manager Davis still expects a tough game against a side that are playing without pressure.

Sittingbourne, who have drawn their last two games with a 1-1 scoreline, then travel to Redhill on Easter Monday. 

The Surrey side are struggling in the bottom three going into the vital Easter weekend, two points adrift of safety, with local rivals Three Bridges looking over their shoulders.

Davis said: “We’ve got three games left and this season seems to never want to end.

“We have Crawley Down on Saturday, which will be difficult because they are down and we can’t be complacent.

“Redhill are fighting for their lives and so that will be tough and then we finish at home to Burgess Hill.”

Sittingbourne attackers Ryan Golding (20 goals) and Joe Taylor have scored 38 goals between them and will be interesting other clubs if Sittingbourne can’t keep hold of them.

Managers Matt Wyatt and Davis are already making plans for next season.

Davis said: “We are currently in discussions with the budget for next year.  This will simply determine who we can keep and bring in etc.

“I think we will lose one or two but I think the majority will stay.  If we can keep the backbone of this side, add one or two, have a pre-season, training sessions on shape etc, we will be stronger for sure.

“We have finished the season strongly, losing six from 23.  If we can continue that into next year we will be a top ten side for sure.”
