We are going for the treble - Seager
Whitstable Town manager Marc Seager has publicly revealed that his unbeaten side are going for the treble, writes Stephen McCartney.
Describing yesterday’s 5-1 win at basement boys Sporting Bengal United as “possibly the worst we have played all season,” results were kind for the Oystermen.
Thamesmead Town dropped to fourth in the Kent League table after losing 4-0 at Herne Bay, whilst Croydon replaced them in second place with a 2-0 win at Faversham Town.
VCD Athletic, meanwhile, moved into third place after their 4-2 win over local rivals Slade Green.
But Whitstable are now eleven points clear at the top with just 12 league games remaining and welcome a Faversham Town side that have failed to score a goal during 2007 to the Belmont in the quarter-finals of the Kent League Cup on Wednesday night.
“I will say publicly for the first time, yes, we are going for the treble,” Seager said in a video interview on their website at www.whitstabletownfc.co.uk.
“I believe we have enough about us to go all the way. Other sides have been dropping points around us.
“Our greatest rivals Herne Bay have done us a massive favour this week beating Thamesmead and last week they beat VCD and I sent Jason (Lillis) a text thanking him.”
Going a goal down early on in east London, before beating Sporting Bengal United 5-1, which included a hat-trick from striker Stuart King, Seager admitted he wasn’t pleased with the display.
He added: “If that’s our one bad game out of twenty, well I take that and look towards the remaining twelve games until the end of the season.”
