The manager of Kent Football United – which has no links to this website – is looking to build long-term foundations.Sam MacNeil, 20, is preparing the Kent Invicta League side for their opening pre-season friendly on Thursday – against Haart of Kent County League Division Two East newcomers Park Regis.
Kent Football United, who have continued their groundshare agreement at Crayford based Kent League club VCD Athletic, face the Sittingbourne based outfit on Thursday, before playing Kent League side Canterbury City on Saturday (3pm).
“Pre-season has been very positive since we started at the very early time of the first week in June,” said MacNeil.
“We have had over 45 players working with the side and have cut that down over a period of weeks to the 20 or so we have now.
“We have a good blend of young but experienced players and are looking to build a foundation on which to progress and develop over the next two to three seasons.”
Park Regis are one of fourteen teams that will be playing in the Haart of Kent County League Division Two East this season.
Looking forward to his side’s first work-out of pre-season, MacNeil added: It will be an excellent chance for me to view my squad and highlight potential areas of needed improvement or strengthening before the start of the Kent Invicta League on 11 August and also before our next friendly with Canterbury City on Saturday.”
The match against Canterbury City is the club’s flagship friendly match, which will be played at the same venue as the outing against Park Regis.
The artist formerly known as Erith & Dartford Town also face Metrogas (at VCD Athletic FC on 21 July), Ide Hill, who have been promoted into the Haart of Kent County League Division Two West (28 July), and their away game against Redhill has been re-arranged for 4 August.
Looking ahead to Saturday’s game against Canterbury, MacNeil said: “That will be an exciting game for us against a very well established side and we hope to put in a strong performance and get as many players minutes as possible.
Erith & Dartford Town finished in the bottom four last season.
