We are sorry to be losing James Everitt, says Folkestone Invicta chairman Mark Jenner

HYTHE TOWN are delighted to unveil the signing of the highly-rated, versatile James Everitt after prising away the 25-year-old from neighbours Folkestone Invicta yesterday.

Everitt, who can play anywhere on the pitch, goes straight into Scott Porter’s squad to face Kent rivals Whitstable Town at Reachfields Stadium tomorrow.

It has been a tremendous week for Porter and his side after they defeated then leaders Crawley Down Gatwick 1-0 last weekend and followed that up with a 2-0 win away to Dulwich Hamlet on Tuesday night.

Hythe Town are now in third-place in the Ryman League Division One South table and face Kent’s lowest-ranked side in the division tomorrow.

A club statement, which was published on www.hythetownfc.co.uk, said: “Manager Scott Porter has had some enjoyable times during his stewardship, but the last week must be up there with his best, securing the transfer of Everitt to round off a week that saw the defeats of both the league leaders and title favourites away from home.”

But Folkestone Invicta chairman, Mark Jenner, says he is sorry to see the club’s longest-serving player leave Cheriton Road.

“It is with regret that James Everitt has informed the club that after nine years he wishes to be released form his contract with Folkestone Invicta,” Mr Jenner said in a statement, which was published on www.folkestoneinvicta.co.uk.

“He recognises that he is currently not playing as well as he once was and feels that a fresh challenge elsewhere might prove beneficial.

“We are sorry to be losing Ratty as he has always been an entertainnig player and provided good value to the supporters over a long period. However, we respect his wishes to move on and wish him well for the future, except against us.”

Mr Jenner added: “We now have the opportunity to further develop our younger players with the chance of first team football whilst retaining our most experienced players.”

James’ older brother, Micheal, left Folkestone Invicta for Whitstable Town during the summer.

Folkestone Invicta boss Neil Cugley takes his side to Horsham tomorrow, a side that released former Sittingbourne defender Ian Varley during the week.
