We believe we can get through to the next round, says Bromley boss Mark Goldberg

BROMLEY boss Mark Goldberg has revealed he may bring in one new player in time for their FA Cup clash against Kent rivals Welling United next Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney. The Lillywhites gained a point in a 1-1 draw against the Wings in Blue Square Bet South in front of their largest crowd of the season at Hayes Lane yesterday.
Luis Cumbers tapped home Welling’s 63rd minute opener, but Bromley deserved to collect a point against their rivals and central defender Liam Harwood, who was voted man-of-the-match by sponsors, restored parity with five minutes of an uninspiring game left.
With £5,000 up for grabs for the winners of the Second Qualifying Round clash next Saturday, Goldberg knows the importance of progress.
Goldberg, who is now in his third spell in charge at Hayes Lane, guided the club to first round ties against Gillingham (2006) and Colchester United in 2009.
“We’ve done it (reached the first round) twice now and I want to make it three,” said Goldberg.
Looking ahead to Saturday’s clash, Goldberg said: “It’s such an important game to the club and everybody involved, but we’ve learned a lot from yesterday and we’ll prepare well during the week and go out there on Saturday believing we can get through to the next round.”
Yesterday’s game against Welling attracted a crowd of 648 – Bromley’s largest crowd of the season – but despite Crystal Palace playing a London derby against West Ham United, and Millwall also being at home next Saturday, Goldberg hopes the Magic of the Greatest Cup Competition in the World will attract more fans to Hayes Lane.
He said: “I think it’s going to be a big game. With Crystal Palace and Millwall both being at home that often has an affect (on our crowds), but I’m expecting a big crowd and we’ll be going out there believing that we can be in the hat for the next round.
“The FA Cup is special for everybody and it’s so important commercially for the club.”
Both Goldberg and Welling player-manager Jamie Day will hope to spring a surprise on one another for the FA Cup tie, having made four and three changes respectively for yesterday’s league game.
Goldberg added: “There’s no doubt that both teams make sure they’ll offer something different. We’re working on maybe one addition to the squad this week.”
Season tickets are NOT valid for FA Cup ties. Admission prices for the game are £12 (adults), £6 (OAP’s), £5 (kids and students). However, a family ticket (one adult and two children) costs £17.
