We certainly won't be going to Plymouth with any fear, says Welling United coach Dean Frost

WELLING UNITED coach Dean Frost says he wants his players to create another piece of FA Cup history for the club.

The Wings travel to League Two side Plymouth Argyle in The FA Cup Second Round on Saturday, plotting to reach the Third Round for the second time in the club’s history.

Plymouth Argyle are sitting in fifteenth-place in the League Two table with six wins and five draws from their nineteen league games.

The Greens needed two games to defeat Conference Premier Lincoln City in the First Round, whilst Welling United pulled off a shock by beating their league rivals Luton Town 2-1 at Park View Road.

Welling United are in thirteenth-place in The Skrill (Conference) Premier, having won eight and drawn five of their 20 league games.

“It’s a game we are all looking forward to and obviously we know what’s at stake,” said Frost, 37, a London mini-cab driver.

“For the players, they all want to play in games like this, to show what they are capable of playing against higher opposition.

“But more importantly they have the opportunity to create a bit of history for themselves by trying to reach the Third Round of The FA Cup for only the second time in the club’s history and then hopefully putting the club into the draw with all the big guns.”

The Wings have scooped £30,500 in prize money for their FA Cup wins over Brislington and Luton Town and they will bank a further £27,000 if they pull off a giant-killing act against Plymouth Argyle.

The only time that the Kent club have reached the Third Round was back in 1989 when Blackburn Rovers came away from Park View Road with a 1-0 victory.

The following season, the club reached the Second Round after beating two Kent clubs in the shape of Bromley and Gillingham (after a replay) before going out to Reading after four epic games.

Frost said: “For the club and the board it will be seen to being a chance to earn some more money, which I am sure would help the club move forward off the pitch.

“But all that’s a long way off. That’s 90 minutes or 180 minutes away!”

Frost knows what a part-time outfit needs on their side if they are to pull off a giant-killing at the weekend.

He said: “We know that we’re going to have to work our socks off, play to somewhere near our potential, take our chances when we get them and have a little lady luck on our side too.

“We certainly won’t be going there with any fear and certainly not going there to make the numbers up.

“We have watched Plymouth and know they have been on a decent run of late. We’ll be aware of the threats they pose and trying to stop them and up the other end trying to take advantage of where we think they are weak.”
