We did not achieve what we set out to do last August, admits Porter

HYTHE TOWN manager Scott Porter has tonight unveiled the signing of goalscoring central defender, Lee Shearer, 33, from newly promoted side Faversham Town, writes Stephen McCartney.
Shearer scored 22 goals as he helped Justin Luchford’s Lilywhites clinch the Bulmers Cider Kent League title as well as the Kent Senior Trophy last month.
But whilst Faversham look forward to their first campaign in the Ryman League, Shearer has decided to remain a Kent League player to try and do it all over again for Hythe.
Shearer, who has Conference experience, becomes the first of the “three or four” players that Porter feels he needs to improve on last season’s third place.
Hythe, who were tipped to win the Kent League title, finished 21 points adrift of Faversham.
“Ideally I would like to get things done and dusted before we fly out to Spain for our players break,” media-shy Porter told www.hythetownfc.co.uk.
He added: “But we will wait as long as needs be for the right men rather than try and rush anyone.
“We are really looking forward to next season having enjoyed the last one despite some disappointments and the awful weather.
“We know we have to make some adjustments because we did not achieve what we set out to do last August, but team spirit has been the big thing at Hythe in recent years and you don’t keep that if you make wholesale changes every summer.”
