We don't want Ramsgate to be the first side to do the double over us, says Neil Cugley

FOLKESTONE INVICTA are keen to put the record straight when old Kent rivals Ramsgate visit Cheriton Road on Saturday.Last weekend’s eventually convincing 4-1 win at Faversham Town cemented Folkestone’s place in the top six while the Rams overcame Burgess Hill Town 3-2 at Southwood Stadium and currently lie tenth in the Ryman League Division One South table.
Jim Ward’s men beat Invicta 3-2 at Southwood in October – a result that ended an unbeaten eight game run for the visitors – and manager Neil Cugley still can’t believe that his side lost on that night.
“We had so many chances it was unbelievable that we came away with nothing,” Cugley told www.folkestoneinvicta.co.uk.
“But we’ll be trying to take the game to them at home. No-one has done the double over us so far this season, and we don’t want Ramsgate to be the first.”
Two goals from pacy French forward Pascal Ebigbo and one by the returning Ian Pulman gave the Rams victory last Autumn with Folkestone replying through James Everitt and substitute Simon Austin, and, as their manager intimated, missing a hatful of chances.
Ebigbo seems to be off the scene with the Thanet outfit, though Pulman has since scored 10 league goals for the Rams.
Cugley expects to start his first choice eleven – as he did at Faversham Town last weekend – but admitted that a couple of the lads had slight injury niggles and only joined in light training this week, so should be fit to face the Rams.
Top scorer Stuart King – who scored twice last weekend – will be facing one of his former clubs having had a relatively short spell at Southwood a few years back.
Cugley said: “Some people felt we made hard work of beating 10 men at Faversham, though once our second goal went in we controlled most of the rest of the game.
“But our expectations are high nowadays while teams are getting used to playing with nine or ten men and Faversham are a fairly experienced side these days.”
Faversham had one time Folkestone defender Matt Bourne sent off for a professional foul on Darren Smith and had taken the lead through journeyman striker Danny Hockton before King equalised from the penalty spot.
Second half goals from Frankie Chappell, James Everitt and an exquisite second by King sealed Folkestone’s victory.
Cade Mortimer comes into the squad while forward Richard Atkins’ loan at Sittingbourne has been extended for a second month.
“Like us they had games called off when the grounds froze up recently, so he (Atkins) still needs more games. But with this being the second month of the loan, he could now be recalled at any time,” added Cugley.
Meanwhile, Folkestone have arranged a midweek home friendly against Kent League side Canterbury City next Wednesday 29 February, kicking off at 7:45pm. Admission is free.
