We don't want to live off what we done last year, says Hythe Town boss Scott Porter

HYTHE TOWN boss Scott Porter says he is looking forward to the club’s first ever game in the Ryman League on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Reachfields Stadium club clinched the Kent League title on goal-difference to Herne Bay on a dramatic final day of the season and make their Ryman League Division One South debut at Godalming Town.

The Surrey side finished in seventeenth place last season with 45 points from 42 games and Porter feels the long wait is finally over.

“We’re looking forward to it.  That’s where we wanted to be,” said Porter.

“I’ve been here seven or eight years now and being in management the pressure has always been on me to get them there, so we’ve got here now.

“Godalming have made a few changes up there.”

The club have spruced up Reachfields Stadium during the summer and they are looking forward to welcoming some new faces this season.

Porter said: “The ground is looking lovely, the pitch is looking nice.  A lot of people have spent a lot of dedication towards the club and we’ve done it on the pitch by signing the players we have and we can’t wait to go into the Ryman.”

Faversham Town – who won the Kent League twelve months earlier than Hythe – and finished as the highest ranked Kent side in Ryman League Division One South last season, finishing in eighth place – visit Reachfields Stadium next Tuesday.

“Faversham is a local derby, anything could happen but the Bognor Regis game, that will be the test for us because they’re a decent side, one of the favourites to so that will be a test.

“They’re all going to be tough games.  You don’t go up the league and expect easy games.  They were hard games in the Kent League, so they’re going to be hard in the Ryman.

“We’re looking forward to it.  We’ve got a good bunch of lads here.  We don’t want to live off what we done last year.  We want to push on.  I’m a winner.  I want to win every game, doesn’t matter what competition it is.”
