We face a nightmare fixture pile-up, bemoans Abbott

Friday 05th February 2010
SITTINGBOURNE boss Gary Abbott is preparing for a mammoth ELEVEN games this month - starting with tomorrow’s home game against Horsham YMCA, writes Stephen McCartney.

Seven games have been postponed since the turn of the year, and Sittingbourne face a fixture pile-up this month to make up for lost time.

Tomorrow’s game is between sides that presently sit in ninth and tenth place in the Ryman League Division One South table.

Ninth-placed Sittingbourne have won five of their last six league games, whilst the West Sussex visitors are unbeaten in their last seven league games.

Abbott, who was speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk tonight, expects a tough game at Bourne Park.

“Obviously it’s going to be a tough game because they’re on a good little run themselves,” he said.

“As long as we worry about our game first, hopefully we’ll get three points tomorrow.

“Everyone’s alright now, everyone’s fit and raring to go, so it will probably be the same side that started against Ramsgate.”

Sittingbourne also face playing three Thursday night games this month.

“It has been frustrating, especially Tuesday night when we were looking forward to Whyteleafe after our win on Saturday.  It was a bit gutting that it was called off but we’ll try and make that right tomorrow.

“We’ve got Bromley (in the Kent Senior Cup) on Tuesday and then we’ve got the Concord Rangers (Championship Manager Cup) on Thursday, so it’s a bit of a nightmare really.

“It’s got to be done and the other games are going to be Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday, but you’ve got to get on with it.”

Striker, Karl Dent, who has arrived on loan from Ryman Premier League leaders Dartford, scored during last weekend’s convincing 6-1 win at Ramsgate.

“We’ve  brought Karl Dent in, who played last week,” said Abbott.  “He’s only a seventeen-year-old boy from Dartford, he’s close to their first team.

“He’s a bit like Colin Richmond really.  He’s a bit more stocky than Colin, he’s good on the ball, he’s exactly the same as Colin, loves a good tackle and hopefully he’ll be a good signing for us.”
