We have the makings of an excellent team, admits Lillis

Despite losing the services of three key players, Herne Bay manager Jason Lillis is confident that his team will be able to “compete” with their Kent League rivals this season.

Defenders Gary Cook and Steve Lloyd have parted company with the Winch’s Field club, whilst midfielder Sam Denly has opted to play Ryman League Division One South football at promoted neighbours, Whitstable Town.

The coastal club reported back to pre-season training at Minster last Saturday, and Lillis is searching for a new partnership at the heart of their defence.

But despite his losses, Lillis admitted on the club’s website at www.hernebayfc.net: "I'm not the slightest bit worried.

“We will be able to compete against all the other teams in the Kent League this season.”

And the former Gillingham and Maidstone United ace added: “We have the makings of an excellent team.”
