We have to make Reachfields a little bit more of a fortress, says Hythe Town boss Scott Porter

HYTHE TOWN boss Scott Porter says he wants his side to become more consistent going into the New Year. They bounced back from their embarrassing 8-0 defeat away to neighbours Folkestone Invicta on Boxing Day with victories over Faversham Town and Ramsgate.
Porter’s side are presently in ninth-place in the Ryman League Division One South table with 36 points from 24 games and are eleven points adrift of fifth-placed Maidstone United.
Looking ahead to Saturday’s home game against Corinthian-Casuals, Porter, who guided the club out of the Kent League on a dramatic final day last season, said: “Of course, we have to be more consistent over the period. We need to be more organised and that’s down to me. If we can start making Reachfields a little bit more of a fortress then we’re definitely going in the right direction.”
Hythe Town have played fifteen league and cup games at home this season and only three sides (Bognor Regis Town, Burgess Hill Town and Walton & Hersham) have come away with victories.
Porter added: “I’ve always said I fancy us against any team on our day and if we can keep doing that and play to the best of our ability we’ll get a lot more out of the season.
“We just have to keep winning. If we keep winning and picking up points you’re waiting on other people. There can’t be too much of a gap between us and the play-off’s, so we’ll keep doing it and hopefully other teams slip up. If we keep working hard and plugging away, we’ll get our rewards.”
When asked what he wants the most, Porter replied, “Consistency really to be honest with you. The first part of the season consistency is a massive plus that we have to build on in this part of the season and hopefully we can do that.”
