We have to respond to back-to-back defeats, says Faversham Town boss Ray Turner

Sunday 11th December 2011
FAVERSHAM TOWN boss Ray Turner says he wants his side to bounce back from their disappointing home defeat to high-flying Dulwich Hamlet, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Lilywhites suffered a 3-0 home defeat to the south Londoners yesterday and Turner has challenged his side to beat Walton Casuals at Salters Lane on Tuesday.

Walton Casuals inflicted Maidstone United’s fifth defeat of the season when they grabbed a last-gasp penalty winner at Bourne Park yesterday.

Turner said: “The biggest thing in this league is putting a string of results together and obviously we’ve had back-to-back defeats now and that’s something that we need to respond to.

“We had it earlier on in the season when we suffered from a couple of defeats and we responded very well to that, so we have to go out and do that again.”

Faversham then travel to Chipstead next Saturday, before welcoming them to Salters Lane three days later.

“I think some of the fixtures have been a bit strange this year, but that’s the way it’s worked out,” said Turner, whose side have dropped a couple of places into fourteenth place in the Ryman League Division One South table with 23 points from 18 league outings.

“We play them on the Saturday and back here on the Tuesday.  It’s tough for both teams really playing the same team in quick succession.  We’ll see what we can do.”

Turner added: “December was always a really busy month.  We’ve got eight games, I think, in total in the month so it’s important we don’t feel sorry for ourselves and just bounce back.”
