We just want the show on the road, says Ward
Monday 01st March 2010
RAMSGATE boss Jim Ward says he feels frustrated that his side are not turning draws into wins, writes Stephen McCartney.
The Rams are presently sitting in 12th place in the Ryman League Division One South table, and their 1-1 home draw against Metropolitan Police at the weekend was their fourth draw in their last five games.
“Another game that we drew that we should have won!” Ward told www.kentishfootball.co.uk.
“Except for the first ten minutes we dominated the rest of the game. We had countless chances, we just couldn’t finish them off!
“Metropolitan Police are a decent side, with a big wage bill. Where they get their money from, I don’t know, but they’ve got no kids playing for them, that’s for sure!
“But they’re also second top in the form guide at the moment. Jim Cooper (the Met Police manager) was telling me he’s got all their players back and they came to expect to turn us over - but they never!”
A run of six successive defeats have seen Walton Casuals slump into the bottom four, but Ward warned, “They won’t give us an inch tomorrow that’s for sure!
“We just want the show back on the road. The boys are so disappointed that we’ve drawn four out of our last five games.
“Except for the Fleet game (last Tuesday), we should have won the rest of them. It was a fair result at Fleet - you were there yourself that night - we just can’t get over the winning line!”
Ward revealed that he will start former Margate teenager Joe Taylor tomorrow night.
“I’m trying a few things out at the moment,” said the Scot. “I’ve signed a young lad from Margate and he will play tomorrow night. He’s a big, six-foot lad, a big lump of a man and he’ll be given a start tomorrow night and we’ll see where that takes us.”
Ward added: “We have a very thin squad. We’re no different from Folkestone, but they have been able to keep 11 players together all year.
“I’ve only kept one defender, James Gregory, who was in the back four before Christmas when we were playing well. It’s very difficult to lose three of your back four.”
Will Graham, Liam Quinn (hamstring) and Gary Mickelborough (hamstring) have all been ruled out through injury.
