We keep shooting ourselves in the foot, says frustrated Seager

WHITSTABLE TOWN manager Marc Seager stood shaking his head as his side trudged off the wrong end of a 4-3 thriller at a very wet and windy Champion Hill on Tuesday night.

Going into the break at 2-2, twice going behind to Dulwich Hamlet, Dan Whisker’s fifth goal in as many games gave the Kent side the lead in the second half, but that wasn’t enough to claim the three points in south London.

Defender Liam Quinn and striker Ian Pulman had scored for Whitstable Town during a pulsating opening 45 minutes.

“We keep getting ourselves into winning positions and then shooting ourselves in the foot with some sloppy defending, undoing all the good work that goes on during the game and at training,” said a stunned Seager, when speaking to www.whitstabletownfc.co.uk.

“At every match I feel as if I am pushing the replay button on TV. I hear myself saying the same things each week, it’s so very, very frustrating.”

Seager takes his side to highflying Merstham on Saturday, a side that are in fifth place in the Ryman League Division One South table with seven wins and one draw from their 13 league outings.

In midweek, the Surrey side defeated Kent side Ashford Town 1-0, but Seager wants his side to win ugly.

“Quite honestly I’d settle for a couple of sloppy goals and clean sheets for the next few games,” he said.

“We’ve scored eleven goals lately and let in eleven during the same period so on the plus side we are scoring goals.

“If we tighten up at the back we can start to get a decent run together.”
